Local businessman James Taylor is not a man to be beaten by a challenge. So when he was asked to take part in one of the world’s toughest physical and mental endurance tests, he readily agreed.
The twice-yearly Tough Guy event is not for the faint hearted and is billed as ‘the original survival ordeal …designed to take you beyond your limits’ and ‘uniquely fear ridden’.
 An eight-mile run across difficult country is followed by the Killing Fields – 21 gruelling obstacles specially built to really test your metal. James and three fellow competitors from his local gym took on the challenge at the course near Wolverhampton on Sunday, January 28.
He acquitted himself well, finishing the punishing course well up the field. “It was a good experience to say the least, I have never felt so cold as I did at the end of that race! And yes I would do it again and reckon I put on a good show, coming 1,698 out of 6,000,” said James.
He adopts the same determined approach to his business. A flooring specialist, he recently took over a second outlet in Hove to add to his existing Fabulous Floors showroom in Petswood, near Orpington. A Speedheat underfloor heating franchise came as part and parcel of the deal.
Both showrooms are approved for Amtico specialist vinyl flooring, which recommends Speedheat to work with its product. James admits he knew very little about underfloor heating and Speedheat in particular, but set about researching the topic and soon discovered he had acquired a beneficial bonus.
“I was somewhat sceptical at first because I thought all under floor heating systems were the same but when I started to look into it, I realised this was not the case.
“Speedheat is a superior product and because it can be installed under any floor covering in any room, it is a very useful add-on as the two businesses go hand-in-hand.”
In fact he was so convinced he became an early customer and installed Speedheat in his own home!
“It’s economical and clean to run, does away with the need for radiators which opens up new interior design possibilities and gives you that luxurious warmth under your feet whenever and wherever you need it,” he said.
