  • Why should I choose Speedheat over a DIY system from my local store?

How do you know if one of these ‘plug and go’ DIY products will meet your optimum comfort requirements as well as safety and installation regulations? Are you sure it won’t harm your expensive new flooring? And what happens when it goes wrong?

Speedheat is a professionally installed system that ticks all the boxes. It has been rigorously tried and tested and comes with guarantees and nationwide, expert service. It has pinpoint fault finding accuracy and is also recommended by top flooring manufacturers.

Speedheat has been independently tested under hardwood floors and came out with top mark. It is also the only floor heating recommended by leading quality flooring specialist Amtico.

  • Is Speedheat safe?

Speedheat electric floor heating complies with all UK safety standards. There is no danger of burning, electric shock, electromagnetic radiation or other health risk. The insulated Speedheat heating element has a complete earth sheath, which is further coated with a final 100% waterproof jacket tested at 1000 volts. All insulation materials are fluoropolymers, which have superior insulation and durability properties. These insulation materials can continuously handle extreme temperatures (up to150ºC) without degrading.

Independent tests have proved that Speedheat does not harm wood flooring or flooring sensitive to heat discolouration.

  • Is Speedheat electric floor heating expensive to run?

Speedheat electric floor heating does not have to be expensive to run, especially when insulation is installed directly underneath the heating and when the temperature is controlled by means of a programmable thermostat. Because it is radiant heat, you will be comfortably warm quicker than you expected and with the thermostat set lower than you expected. Also, UK electricity prices are competitive with those for gas and solid fuel.

  • Is Speedheat expensive to maintain?

Not at all. The Speedheat element is designed to be maintenance free, durable and with a long life expectancy. For your peace of mind, we offer an annual maintenance package to check that the thermostat and controls are working properly so that your heating runs smoothly.

  • Is Speedheat suitable to heat an entire house?

Yes! The big advantage with Speedheat is that you can control the temperature in each room individually and the heating can be installed under just about all types of floor coverings.

  • Can I heat just one room?

Of course. You can install Speedheat in just one room or in lots of rooms, or you can add it to other rooms later. If it is used as the primary heating system for a whole building, the intelligent programmable thermostat means you only need to heat the rooms that you want, when you want.

  • Can Speedheat be installed on an existing floor?

Absolutely! Speedheat can be installed on an existing floor when you change your floor covering. Speedheat only requires an additional build-up height of 3-5mm, depending on the type and thickness of the floor insulation to be installed, which in almost all cases is not a problem.

  • Why are the environmental advantages of Speedheat?

Thanks to the latest technological advances in renewable energy such as wave, wind and solar power, electricity generated from these ‘green’ sources is becoming increasingly available to UK consumers.

If you are using gas or solid fuel heating, you will lose a lot of heat through the flue or chimney. With Speedheat electric floor heating, there is no such energy wastage and because of the faster response time and controllability, less energy is used to warm the room.

  • Can Speedheat be connected to solar panels?

In theory, yes. It depends on the design of the solar panels, the total amount of energy generated and whether or not it feeds into the main supply or is only intended to heat water. Contact us to find out more.

  • How does Speedheat compare with convection type heating, such as radiators?

With conventional radiator-style heating, the air in the room is being heated and not the people. The warm air rises to the ceiling while cold air gets sucked to the bottom of the heater. This air circulation can dry the skin as well as drying the atmosphere.
Speedheat is radiant heat, like warmth from the sun. Radiant heat does not warm the air, but all solid objects in the room, including the occupants. This type of heating creates almost no airflow and subsequently, no drying effect and no evaporative cooling.

Floor heating is 95% radiant heat and only 5% of the heat transfer takes place by natural convection. Because the floor temperatures are moderately warm, there is no risk of burning. With conventional radiator-style heating, the air in the room is being heated and not the people. • What is the difference between Speedheat and conventional underfloor heating?

Conventional underfloor heating – both water and electric – is installed in the concrete floor slab.  Hot water systems require plumbing work, a boiler and a pump. The warming up time can be several hours as the whole slab has to be heated before the temperature of the floor surface starts to rise. This can mean that the heating has to be switched on all day to ensure comfortable temperatures for the periods required.

The Speedheat element comes as a thin ‘mat’ installed on top of the floor slab just underneath the final flooring and warms up many times faster – especially when combined with insulation – because it does not have to heat the heavy floor slab first. The heating is controllable and efficient, so you only have to heat the room when it’s in use.

  • Repairs to Electric Underfloor Heating

Occasionally, due to reasons beyond anyone's control, an electric underfloor heating element requires a repair. With Speedheat this is not a problem.

We have specialist equipment designed and manufactured by our International Technical Department that enables our trained technicians to fault find, diagnose and repair, in one visit.

The Speedheat electric underfloor heating repair service is not limited to Speedheat installations.

The specialist equipment enables the technician to pin-point the fault to within half an inch. This minimises the amount of inconvenience to the home owner and reduces both labour time and the amount of floor to be lifted and re installed. For instance with a tiled floor usually only one tile is affected.

A repair would follow the procedure below.

    1.       Arrive and pin-point break with specialist equipment.
    2.       Take up tile or section of floor above the found  damage area.
    3.       Make repair
    4.       Relay floor finish.
    5.       Heating ready to go!

If your electric underfloor heating needs a repair and you don't know who to call, phone Speedheat first.
